Pizza vending machine offers up three-minute pies in Flint

FLINT, MI -- Five touches, a contactless payment and a three-minute wait is all you need at Mott Community College to have yourself a fresh artisan-style pizza.

PizzaForno, a 24/7 fully-automated artisan pizzeria in vending machine format, installed the company’s 13th machine in the United States at Mott Community College before classes started for the 2022-23 academic year.

It’s the fourth college campus PizzaForno unit in the U.S. and the fifth total unit in the state of Michigan.

The company hosted a sampling event for students and staff on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Mott Community College location, inside of the Curtice-Mott Complex in the center of campus.

Jayln Rutherford, a 17-year-old senior at Mott Middle College, said this pizza is much preferred over the options in the cafeteria. He’ll “absolutely” be returning for another pie.

Pizzas are all $9 plus tax. The machine is loaded with up to 70 pizzas with all the favorite options: Meat Lovers, Cheeseburger, Pepperoni, BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian, Four Cheese Blend, Vegetarian, and Honey Chèvre.

Customers can also download the PizzaForno app to order and reserve their pizzas in advance.

It’s perfect for a college campus, with students, faculty and staff on the go at all times.

“It’s fast, easy, convenient and quality,” Jason Lowder, chief marketing officer, said at the tasting event.

PizzaForno is also working with Mott Community College to develop a promotion where a percentage of all proceeds from the machine go back into the Mott Community College Student Emergency Fund.

It’s a fund that helps students meet basic needs like clothing, food and other things.

“So me as an employee, if I’m coming down here, I’m getting a pizza and I know that my purchase is going to help a student in need in the future. That makes me feel better about the food offerings on campus,” Deandra Larkin, Mott Community College chief of staff, told MLive-The Flint Journal.

PizzaForno is currently in three markets in the United States: Michigan, New Orleans and Houston. The company recently agreed to bring PizzaForno to Atlanta, too, Lowder said.
