The company, based in Wisconsin, US, specializes in the design, development and manufacture of equipment and lines to produce mozzarella cheese.

It also manufactures cheese cutting, shredding and brining equipment.

Monica Gimre, executive VP, Processing Systems, Tetra Pak said Johnson Industries International is one of North America’s principal suppliers to the mozzarella cheese manufacturing sector and many of its customers are expanding in this category.

“Tetra Pak does not have the full range of core equipment for mozzarella cheese lines, specifically cookers-stretchers and molding systems, in its current portfolio. The acquisition compliments Tetra Pak’s portfolio of cheese equipment and solutions; and extends its offerings in mozzarella cheese, a category that is expected to continue to grow globally," she said.

Grant Nesheim, president, Johnson Industries International, added the firm has been expanding recently to other parts of the world, and it now sees the acquisition as an exciting opportunity for further international growth through Tetra Pak channels.

“This transaction means our innovations will be supported by the global resources and expertise of Tetra Pak. This will benefit our customers in the long run as they continue to receive our products and services supported by Tetra Pak’s global organization,” he said.

Johnson Industries International will remain in its current location and will continue to focus on its core business.

This isn't the first cheese-related acquisition by Tetra Pak, it purchased Carlisle Process Systems in the US in 2006; Obram in Poland in 2015 and Laude in the Netherlands last year.
