Harjinder Kaur (born 14th October 1996, age: 25 years) is a popular sports player and a Weightlifter from India. She recently rose to fame in the world of Sports on 2nd August 2022 when she created history. She won Bronze Medal at Common Wealth Games 2022.

She has defeated many powerful female weightlifters during the Commonwealth games and grabbed a Bronze medal for the country.

Harjinder Kaur an Indian Weightlifter remained successful in her attempt during the commonwealth games 2022. In her first attempt, she remained unable to lift 90kg. In her second attempt in the clean and jerk round she lifted 90kg and then 119 kg in her third attempt. She won the bronze medal after lifting a total of 212kg weight in her three attempts.

Since she won a medal Punjab Chief Minister has congratulated her on her achievement. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan has announced prize money of 40 lakh for Harjinder Kaur. Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney has announced a reward of 5 lakh Rupees for Harjinder. Along with it MP Vikramjit Singh has promised to provide a job to Harjinder in NGO Sun Foundation, which is running world-class skill centers and drug rehab centers in Punjab.

According to Harjinder Kaur’s Wikipedia page then she was born in Mehas village in Nabha, Patiala, Punjab. While living in village Mehas she completed her education in Punjab. She was a student of Nabha’s Government School near her village.

Then she went to SGTB Khalsa College, Anandpur Sahib for higher studies. Harjinder is 25 years old now. In the beginning, it took time for Harjinder’s coach Mr. Paramjeet Sharma to convince her to weightlifting. When she joined a camp for Kabaddi at Punjab University in 2016. Her strength was noticed by Punjabi University’s weightlifting coach Parmjeet Sharma. He asked her to opt for weightlifting. And after some time Harjinder started her training.

In her interviews, Harjinder has revealed that she gained her muscle strength by using a fodder machine at her home. She use to cut straw on “Toka” (a hand fodder machine) to feed her buffaloes.

Harjinder Kaur’s family lives in a One-Room house in Mehas Village. She belongs to the landless Punjab Farmer family. Her father’s name is Sahib Singh and her mother’s name is Kuldeep Kaur. She also has an elder brother Pritpal Singh. Her brother works as a government Clerk. Due to her family’s worse financial conditions, Harjinder faced many difficulties in her career. Her family took Rs 1 lakh loan so that Harjinder can continue her weightlifting career.

When she won a Bronze medal at CWG her brother Pritapal Singh talked to the media.

Pritapal Singh spoke “She’s a dedicated person, and her CWG medal was the result of years of hard work. She used to cut fodder on the chaff-cutting machine, which in turn developed her arm strength. She never said no to it because as she used to take care of the buffaloes alone.”

“Initially, we faced problems. Things started to improve once she started winning medals and I got a government job.”

Her father is now 60 years old and feels proud of her daughter and requested government to provide her daughter a job.

When Harjinder Kaur started following her coach Paramjeet Sharma’s footsteps she first competed in tug-of-war games. Tug of War Game is a Strength-based game in which a rope is pulled. She won the tug-of-war game and gave her best in-game. Paramjeet Sharma observed her strength and further recommended her to continue her career in weightlifting. She was a teenager when she began her career in weightlifting. Prior to it, Harjinder was learning Kabaddi under her coach Surinder Singh.

She participated in her first weightlifting competition in 2016. She grabbed her first Gold medal during the 2017 Women Inter-State National Weightlifting Championship in Kolkata. She got Bronze Medal in 35th Women Senior National Weightlifting Championship. She has won many other medals in her career which we have stated below.

Currently, Harjinder Kaur is single and has not started any relationship. She has not shared about her boyfriend or husband anywhere. More about her marriage and love life will be updated later.

Harjinder Kaur who previously faced financial issues in her life now has won a Bronze Medal and a cash prize of more than 45 Lakh INR. In her struggling days, her father use to give her Rs 350 for her travel fare and Rs 350 for her pocket money. She at that time feels fear to ask for money from her father due to the bad financial condition of her family.
