It has been found that the 62-year-old woman reported missing from Mundhwa was allegedly brutally murdered by her 20-year-old grandson and her son is also purportedly an accused.

The youth apparently vented his anger for his grandmother allegedly treating his mother (deceased’s daughter-in-law) with disdain.

Earlier, Mirror had reported a story about the missing woman on August 30 under the title ‘Property dispute leads to abduction.’

Mundhwa police have now revealed that the 20-year-old accused, identified as Sahil Gaikwad, cut his grandmother’s body into pieces with the help of a tree-cutting machine. Adding a twist to the tale, the deceased woman’s son, Sandeep Gaikwad, has also been charged as an accused. He allegedly helped commit the cold-blooded crime. On Monday, cops detained the duo who have been charged with section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

In this case, the daughter of the deceased had lodged a complaint on August 5, claiming both the accused had killed her mother for property. The cops initially treated the case as a property dispute one, but when they found a body part of the missing woman, their investigation path changed.

After strangling her to death, the father-son duo cut her body and threw it near the river banks.

Cops said the deceased, Usha Gaikwad, despised her daughterin-law. A few months ago, Usha had told her to leave the house over a petty issue. The father and son were irked. According to police information, Sahil was fed up with his grandmother’s rude behaviour towards his mother. She had shifted to their house in Mundhwa after her retirement, after which domestic disputes became a daily affair.

On the day of the incident, Sahil was sleeping at home when an argument broke out between his mother and the deceased. Usha accused her daughter-in-law of finishing her biscuits. Disgusted by her accusations, the daughter-in-law left the house and Sahil started fuming. In fact, Usha also told the grandson to leave. Angered, Sahil strangled her to death. Then, with the help of his father, he cut and discarded the corpse in a nearby riverbed.

The duo filed a complaint and printed missing pamphlets, distributing it in the vicinity.

When the mother of the accused returned home, she prodded her son about the grandmother’s whereabouts. It was then that SAhil . He also convinced other family members to keep that a secret and not reveal the truth to the cops.

Senior police inspector Bramhanand Naikwadi said, “Initially, we treated this incident as a missing person’s case. Later, after forensic reports suggested blood stains in the house, we investigated the case from a different angle and booked the father-son duo on charges of murder. Sahil admitted to killing his grandmother and his father has been treated as a joint accused.”
